I just twisted my ankle pretty badly. It’s not hurting as much now that I have a bag of frozen corn on it (I don’t have any ice), but it was “I can’t put any weight on this” hopping around painful for several minutes. My housemates pointed out to me that I had left the car windows open in the rain, and I stepped wrong off the steps on my way out to close them.

(The car, by the way, is having brake problems, and I don’t feel like I should drive it except to the shop now. Poor timing, since I’m not sure I’ll be able to walk to the T station tomorrow morning.)

I’m sure I’ll be fine in a few days, but I’m a bit concerned about how I’m going to get around the next few days. Maybe I’ll be lucky and feel mostly better tomorrow.

Thanks and love to the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] plumtreeblossom, who called me when she heard what had happened and gave me advice (passing along stuff she’d picked up in the School of Literal Hard Knocks herself).

Wish I had a cane — I’ve got a walking stick, but it’s for hiking and has a point on the end and is not so good indoors.

I’ve got lots of happy userpics, because that’s when I take pictures. I need some unhappy ones. This is not the fun kind of pain.

When I sprained my ankle there was fortunately a good veterinarian around (thanks again wren13) who told to RICE: rest, ice, compression, elevation. When sitting, elevate. Get another chair add a pillow, get it up there. compression= wrap like with an ace bandage. ice for 20 minutes every two hours. rest = stay off it as much as possible. Also, ibuprophen or something like that to reduce the swelling. Hope you feel better soonest!
