I just twisted my ankle pretty badly. It’s not hurting as much now that I have a bag of frozen corn on it (I don’t have any ice), but it was “I can’t put any weight on this” hopping around painful for several minutes. My housemates pointed out to me that I had left the car windows open in the rain, and I stepped wrong off the steps on my way out to close them.

(The car, by the way, is having brake problems, and I don’t feel like I should drive it except to the shop now. Poor timing, since I’m not sure I’ll be able to walk to the T station tomorrow morning.)

I’m sure I’ll be fine in a few days, but I’m a bit concerned about how I’m going to get around the next few days. Maybe I’ll be lucky and feel mostly better tomorrow.

Thanks and love to the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] plumtreeblossom, who called me when she heard what had happened and gave me advice (passing along stuff she’d picked up in the School of Literal Hard Knocks herself).

Wish I had a cane — I’ve got a walking stick, but it’s for hiking and has a point on the end and is not so good indoors.

I’ve got lots of happy userpics, because that’s when I take pictures. I need some unhappy ones. This is not the fun kind of pain.

*hug* I'm sorry to hear that you hurt your ankle! Do you have any chairs that roll -- like desk chairs on wheels? When I twisted my ankle, I put the knee of the affected leg on the seat of the chair and walked with my good leg, sort of like using a scooter. It kept ALL the weight off my bad ankle, but I could go everywhere I needed to go (inside).

Drug stores sell canes for $15 - $20. Send somebody to Walgreen's or CVS or something, and have them pick up a cane for you. There are some that are adjustable, so even if they don't know which cane is an exact fit for your height, they can still bring you a cane.

Can you telecommute tomorrow?

Good luck! I hope you feel better soon.

Ack! Ow. I've done that twice, to the same ankle (years apart, at least). Not. Fun. (and then a week and a half ago I dropped a hammer on it. it still hurts.) I hope you recover quickly.

Lots of sympathy. Don't forget RICE — Rest, Ice, Compress, Elevate!

I'd offer to bring you crutches (though tomorrow is tight), but [livejournal.com profile] jacflash and [livejournal.com profile] dbang still have ours from their double whammy :}

If I knew where to get a cane, I'd get one and bring it to you, wherever you are. If anyone knows of a store that definitely sells canes and can be gotten to on the T (I have no car), please let me know!

When I sprained my ankle there was fortunately a good veterinarian around (thanks again wren13) who told to RICE: rest, ice, compression, elevation. When sitting, elevate. Get another chair add a pillow, get it up there. compression= wrap like with an ace bandage. ice for 20 minutes every two hours. rest = stay off it as much as possible. Also, ibuprophen or something like that to reduce the swelling. Hope you feel better soonest!

Sorry to hear about this. Do take a sprain seriously and get it looked at.

I have an adjustable walking stick that has a flat tip rather than a point. You're welcome to borrow it (I can bring it to the Diesel tonight).
