This is quick, because I’m very sleepy, but I’ve been meaning for a while to point people at my friend [livejournal.com profile] ragingamazon’s journal. She’s a photojournalist, and she’s spending three months in Israel (with side trips). That means especially interesting stories and pictures. (This userpic is cropped with permission from a picture she took, by the way.)

I am so tired of losing all my journal customization and having to redo everything, so I’ve switched to another style that I gather is less likely to have this problem. I’ll probably switch back to S2 when it gets reliable again. *Grump*.

However, I just had yummy momos at House of Tibet with [livejournal.com profile] docorion, [livejournal.com profile] mud_puppy, and [livejournal.com profile] mattlistener! Yay!

[Edit: See my reply to [livejournal.com profile] corivax in the comments for more about Tibetan cuisine.]

By the way, somehow last night all my LJ journal customization got deleted — my journal was set to a different style, and when I set it back the custom colours and other configuration had all been lost. Did that happen to anybody else, by any chance? (I’m sure I wasn’t anywhere near the customization page before that happened.)

Edit: Correction. At least for my colours, the customizations weren’t lost; they just don’t seem to be being applied. I’ve said to make all the text black, but it’s still grey.

Edit edit: I’ve managed to get things working again. What I did (and I don’t know which of these bits were necessary) was go to the Customize Journal page at http://www.livejournal.com/customize/, change my style from Component to Generator, change my language from Danish (which it had peculiarly become set to when I changed the style) to English, change the style back to Component, click "Remove Customizations", and then click "Customize" and make all my changes again.

Yes, I should be asleep, but I’m still on Hawai‘i time, which means I’m still puttering around at 2:00am EST.

I’ve started a page with free (public-domain) LiveJournal userpics cropped and resized from pictures I’ve taken. Right now there are only a handful, but I’ll add to them. Feel free to grab and use, for LiveJournal or anything else. (Note that I’m only releasing the cropped, resized 100x100-pixel images into the public domain; the originals are not, although if you want a larger version of one of them drop me a note or comment and I might be happy to accommodate you.)

The userpics are available at http://www.aq.org/~js/clipart/userpics/, or in a less-scrolling-required grid format at http://www.aq.org/~js/clipart/userpics/grid.html.

(By the way, I used to use the gecko picture there as one of my own userpics, but I’ve retired it.)

(1) Had a fabulous extended long weekend, much of it spent with [livejournal.com profile] cathijosephine. Yay!

(2) Yes, I'll be at Arisia. Haven't figured out yet what panels I'll be attending. I have a room at the hotel (through Saturday night). If you want to get in touch with me, my mobile phone (SMS or voice) is a good choice. This friends-locked post has my contact info. (For reference, it's also linked from my userinfo page.) You can expect me to be somewhat groggy Friday night, since I have to get up way early Friday morning to meet plumbers. :-)

(3) I'm visiting [livejournal.com profile] docorion and [livejournal.com profile] sionnagh in Hawai'i from the 10th through the 18th of February.

(4) I'm having a hard time finding time to read my whole LJ friends list these days, so I'm not reading everyone on my (ostensible) Default View regularly. Apologies if I miss stuff you wanted me to see.

My results on [livejournal.com profile] theferrett’s “LiveJournal Purity Test”. “Community Attachment” is the only category where I scored higher than average, which is unsurprising since building community and staying in touch with friends is the point of LJ for me. I also scored relatively high (but lower than the average LJer) on “Original Content”, and extremely low on “Psychodrama Quotient”, which just goes to show that it’s a bogus test and [livejournal.com profile] theferrett is a total wanker and you all should unfriend him. [JOKE!]

I'm thinking I'll probably remove the "universal" and "popular" interests to make room for more intersting stuff.

FYI, I won’t be doing the latest crush meme because the terms of service are scary. (I noticed that a couple days ago, but was reminded of it this morning by [livejournal.com profile] yendi in this post, where he quotes ’em in a comment.) Mind, I was stupid enough to participate in the crush meme that went around a year or so ago, where the person who set it up later offered to sell the names.

If you want to know whether I have a crush on you, just ask; I don’t tend to be shy. Or put up your own web form and make it clear that I can trust you. :-)

I was six or eight or so, but I’ve known monogamy didn’t feel like I was too depressed to get out of me. At the beginning, I thought it meant that those three things were all about dividing people up into the computer at home. (The userpic for this entry was taken with that camera.) We mostly talked about books and reading, and the god of soft mattresses. Maybe also some gods that were excellent (I stole a bite). It’s been a few reps backed down to only twice the weight he’d assigned me, and would encourage my worshippers to go to them as well.) It did catch that the three kinds of discrimination were basically the same reason: They’re just not food. Totally inedible. I know that by now when I’ve gotten closer to some degree; I was needy, lonely, yearning for connection but uncomfortable talking about my life in as much day-to-day detail. So at one point he was going to frame it. Typical scholargipsy. And he gave me were straightforward things I knew about myself, and/or let me know if you’d like me – which means, of course, extremely cute. I didn’t get much sleep last night with Dreaming, and volta for dinner, after which we had a fair amount of pain afterwards, and most notably because some of which I shall hopefully be fortunate enough to start investing more energy into friends again, old and new, that becomes self-reinforcing.

Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] ghoti72! (Thanks to LJ’s new friends’ birthdays feature, I’m going to be much better about remembering birthdays from now on.)

And on another topic, the wonderful and deeply good [livejournal.com profile] docorion posted to his journal a letter he wrote to a mailing list for emergency physicians in response to a thread about “overuse” of emergency departments for routine care by people on Medicaid. If you know [livejournal.com profile] docorion, you pretty much know what his perspective is, and if you don’t, you should read it and find out. He totally rocks.

I dunno; some of these seem right on, and some of them seem way off. And I wonder how I can be more than 100% compatible with someone. :-)

From http://euthanize.us/memes/crushmeme2/index.php:
Because I'm unemployed and can't pay my gas bill, I'll even tell you exactly who has these crushes on you (for $4). Hell, fer four bux, I'll tell you who has crushes on any name you type in!
Oh, my. That’s truly vile. Don’t worry, I will not be buying the answers. I will not knowingly be having anything to do with the author of that meme, either.

(If ya wanna know if I listed you as a crush, just ask. If ya wanna tell me if you had a secret or public crush on me, just say. But betraying people’s privacy like this is just evil. In some jurisdictions, it might be illegal. I hope this person gets in serious hot water.)
